The Changing Faces of January

LOCATION: North Canterbury New Zealand. 27/01/10

Warm days in North Canterbury are few and far between, even in the Summer, I suppose it is warmer then the winters and frosty mornings it gives us, but I have found my craving for hot weather has not been satisfied and I am getting quite frustrated with being cold all the time, a feeling you can never quite understand unless you have lived in a climate that when it  is summer, it really is summer! Ill feelings about the weather aside, today North Canterbury gave us a brilliant day, The weather was warm, and clear and when it throws us a warm day, it also ends it brilliantly with a beautiful pastle sunset and crisp clean breeze to cool the earth gradually to ensure a comfortable nights sleep.

Tomorrow I hope it again gives us a warm day, I plan to go to the beach and then find some bush to go hiking in. I'am on rostered days off at the moment, and I am am incredibly happy the weather has been kind.

Yesterday was Australia day, I jokingly tried to get the day off as I'am Australian and in Australia it is a public holiday! Instead after work I had a mini BBQ, nothing fancy, just sausages and was trying to get through some of the abundance of alcohol that had been accumulated from being the last back packer standing on the farm, I have been left with many a bottles of spirits from others, who cannot take it with them, including my own collection. Unfortunatly, my other work mates had to work the next day so we couldnt really get stuck in.
It was great chilling out to some classic aussie hits and playing my favorite version of Advance Australia Fair by Adam Hill...look it up on You tube.
I felt a pang of homesickness, knowing most people will being having BBQs, drinking and catching up with each other at the beach, but at the moment, I'm on a big adventure, and I soon got stuck into clearing a paddock of wood.

The boss has been away and we have had the 2IC in charge, (that makes me 3IC!!!)she is fun, but also makes sure we get our work done.

The start of January saw the return of Kaylee a Canadian girl who helped us out just before christmas, she is due to leave in a couple of days, Kaylee is great to work with and super fun! She lived with me for about a week in my small 1 bedroom apartment, Kaylee didnt seem to mind the couch and it was like being on camp everyday while she stayed.

                                                                  Facials With Kaylee ^

The middle of January saw Ronan finish up working here, and no longer being my next door neighbour, It was sad to see him leave, the person I spent almost a year working and living very closely with, and at one stage we had the same days off. Seeing him everyday had become like a habit to me, and when he left, it was strange not to see his car, or seeing Kaylee come through the door instead of him,
But  I'm used to saying goodbye to people, being a scout you meet many people and forge many great friendships, and one thing I have learned, is that you will see them again and if you dont the fantasic memories are there forever.

Before he left we went on a trip to dunedin...seperate blog.

Now the end of January has seen a new arrival, new next door neighbour new person to get used to, I could
just run over to Ronan and plant myself on one of his chairs, I hesitate on weather to visit the new arrival, trying to work him out, he is from Ireland, and an ag collage student, same age as me, seems like he will be fun and easy to get along with.
Kaylee and I greeted him at the airport with a big sign, he took it well...good start lol.

This month I have seen the movies Lovely Bones and Avartar3D, both were different to what I expected and both didn't dissapoint me. I also saw  Paranormal Activity and many sleepless nights followed, Kaylee and I bought a blanket to hide under in the cinema, and oh boy did we hide, seeing Ronan jump was enough to let me know that I was glad I was hiding.

I also rented the movie UP, again other brilliant, unexpected movie, which I think
will appeal more to adults then kids.

Well I will write about Dunedin now, while Day of the Triffords plays in the background and I read Kathy Reichs, Deja Dead, yes as a woman I can multitask, or I have a short attention span, however u like to veiw it.
And If my net ever connects, will upload these.

  Night All
